WHAT IS A SPORTS PHYSICAL?
Our medical professionals understand how important sports and other physical activities are for adults and children alike. Board-certified osteopathic physician Dr. Kelly L. McKerahan is proud to perform pre-participation exams, known as sports physicals, to help determine if you or your child are ready and well enough for the court or field. This assessment works to evaluate the patient's overall medical condition, as well as their potential risk for injury. Sports exams are typically performed 4 – 6 weeks before the start of the season so it's important to stay on top of your needs. Once our team has discussed your medical history, we will perform a physical exam to understand your condition and address any potential concerns so you can be at your very best.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SPORTS PHYSICAL?
Commonly required by most student athletes throughout the United States, sports physicals are conducted in two parts:
- Medical history: During this portion of your exam, Dr. McKerahan will ask about your medical past and discuss any illnesses or injuries you have experienced, as well as complications that are common among your family members.
- Physical exam: Once we fully understand your medical history, we will move on to the exam portion of your sports physical. This examination is intended to help determine if you or your child is physically well enough to participate in sports and to look for any areas of concern that could lead to injury.
